Welcoming Koichiro Nakanishi & Shiatsu to Stream Point Wellness!

imageYes, you read it right! Stream Point Wellness is proud to be bringing on a new team member! Let’s give a warm welcome to Koichiro Nakanishi, a vibrant healer who will be bringing a unique form of massage therapy known as Shiatsu, with his own special twist.

Koichiro was born in Japan and spent his childhood there, which is where his journey into massage began. As a young boy, he was instructed in the art of simple massage from his grandmother. Between his brother and sisters, they started to massage each other, but Koichiro was very ticklish at the time, so he preferred “giving” massage more than “receiving.” He massaged his family at home or on a vacation, his friends when they were tired, and his teammates when he was in the track and field team. Koichiro’s and his family moved to the United States, which is where he attended Middle and High school, but after graduation, he decided to move back to Japan, which is where he continued his training in massage therapy.

Koichiro started his career as a massage therapist in Kanagawa, Japan. He attended the Manual Therapist Academy in Japan, and studied over 600 hours. After massaging over 1000 clients, he decided he wanted to study more, which led him to come back to United States. He completed the 720 hours program at Lexington Healing Arts Academy, where he gained more knowledge of human body and massage.

photoshiatsuWhat exactly is Shiatsu?

The word Shiatsu means “Finger Pressure.” Some would consider it a part of traditional Chinese Medicine because the holistic theory is that the goal is to move “Qi” in the body.

The Way Koichiro performs this Modality of Massage, is by applying pressure using his fingers, thumbs, and/or palms in a continuous rhythmic sequence. The pressure feels more localized because, unlike traditional Shiatsu (in which the therapist only massages on the Meridians), Koichiro uses more of a Trigger Point system. Koichiro’s unique style of massage involves Shiatsu, Trigger Point therapy, and Stretching. You can enjoy the “good hurt” push, with “relaxing relief” of the body and mind. Even more unique, as a client, you stay fully clothed for all of his sessions. Always come in comfortable clothes.

Stay tuned for a more in depth piece about the interesting art of Shiatsu therapy, and we strongly encourage you to try his unique style out at the clinic!
